Wool improves indoor air quality. Buildings often contain contaminants (VOCs) emitted by newly installed materials or furniture. The special effect of sheep's wool fiber can permanently bind chemicals such as formaldehyde, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and remove them from the air.
Formaldehyde is a pollutant found in resin-based wood products, such as particleboard, furniture, flooring and some insulation. Formaldehyde is slowly released from these products by the hydrolysis of the resin. Increases in emissions occur with increasing temperature and humidity. Wool is a natural protein made up of a number of different amino acid chains (18 exactly), of which 60% have a reactive side chain. These reactive wool areas are combined with formaldehyde molecules and other harmful substances, and neutralized through a process called chemosorption. This allows wool insulation to effectively and permanently clean the contaminants found in the air indoor . The natural LanaTerm wool insulation can absorb up to 100% of formaldehyde in the immediate vicinity.

Wool controls humidity. LanaTerm can absorb one-third of its own weight in moisture without losing its insulation properties.
Wool fiber has a hydrophobic exterior and a hydrophilic interior, which means it adapts very quickly to the humidity of the surrounding air and absorbs moisture when the humidity is higher than the specific moisture of the wool. If the air in the room is too dry, it releases the moisture back. These properties are not found on any synthetic fiber.
The sheep's wool can adsorb up to 33% of its own weight in moisture, without losing its insulating qualities without getting "wet". It retains its buoyancy without damaging the structure. The reason for this is the unique structure of the protein fiber: it is water resistant, that is hydrophobic. A property that is very advantageous for critical installation situations - for example, with the risk of condensation. And the sheep's wool has another advantage: as a protein fiber, it does not form a breeding ground for mold. That's why LanaTerm is naturally protected from mold. This natural exchange of moisture between the room air and insulating material acts as a healthy conditioning of indoor air quality.

Sound absorbtion. Wool fiber is unique in its ability to simultaneously reduce environmental noise, contact noise and sound transmission.
The Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) is the average of noise absorption coefficients and ranges between 0.85-0.95. A NRC=0 indicates a perfect reflection, NRC=1 indicates perfect absorption.

Sheep's wool is an invention of nature with properties that no synthetic fiber can imitate. Using LanaTerm significantly reduces heat loss, lowers energy costs, and increases indoor comfort. Natural wool fibers are very resistant, which guarantees that insulation, if applied according to the manufacturer's instructions, will have a lifetime as long as the structure itself.
LanaTerm is a thermal and / or acoustic insulation produced 100% of the best quality sheep wool. Wool fibers are only mechanically linked without the addition of synthetic fibers or chemical agents that can compromise the 100% ecological integrity of the product.
The R value indicates the resistance to heat flow. The higher the R value, the greater the insulation strength. The R-value of the LanaTerm insulation is equal, or often exceeds the one of other insulation materials.
The natural structure of the wool makes it incredibly effective as an insulator. Each sheep’s wool fiber is composed of protein molecules (keratin), organized into five follicles. These fibers efficiently capture air, humidity and harmful chemicals. Using insulation wool helps keep the house warm during the winter and cools it in the summer, while improving indoor air quality.

Easy to install. One of the main reasons why we love sheep's wool and we recommend it so much is that it's very easy to work with. You do not need any protective equipment, it does not cause itching, it does not cause allergies. LanaTerm is safe and harmless.
Both glass wool and mineral wool cause major irritation if you handle them with a bare hand and cause lesions of the lungs and eyes. It is therefore recommended that you wear a mask and goggles when installing any of these harmful insulations.

100% natural. Sheep’s wool is sustainable. LanaTerm is 100% a natural product. Since sheep naturally produce wool, only a fraction of energy is consumed as opposed to production of other equivalent man-made insulation. The biggest part of this energy is needed to wash the wool before it is processed in our factory. In fact, sheep's wool requires less than 15% of the energy used to make glass wool, so there is only one winner in terms of sustainability.
Environmental friendly. It is from a natural source, it grows again and again without a specific input and is therefore truly renewable, not to mention 100% recyclable. For green buildings with low impact, such as passive or zero-carbon houses, these features are perfect. LanaTerm wool insulation does not leave a negative environmental footprint being biodegradable. The depletion potential of the ozone layer is zero, as is the potential effect on the global warming.

Sheep's wool is the least flammable

Sheep wool is the least flammable of all natural fibers due to its high nitrogen content. The ignition temperature is 560 ° C, which is approximately twice as hot as that of wood (270 ° C). For combustion, an oxygen content of min. 25% is needed. Because in the surrounding air the oxygen content is only 21%, the flames are strongly inhibited.
It does not require any flame retardant substance and therefore does not generate toxic gases in case of fire. LanaTerm insulation practically acts as a fire barrier.
